Teacher gift

I love this all purpose cleaner from Target because it smells great and is affordable. My girls had lots of teachers this year because they attended 2 different preschools so I needed something that didn't break the bank. I grabbed a bunch of these cleaners and made a cute tag and in 10 minutes the gifts were all ready to go! These tags would also work great on a container or Clorox Wipes.

These would work any time of year but are especially great in the Spring for teacher appreciation or end of year teacher gifts. I'm so grateful for the teachers in our life, they truly love our kids and do such an amazing job. So here's to an easy and cute teacher gift!

We handed these out today and they were a huge hit with the teachers!

Save the images below to print the tags

Easy Ministering Gift

Right now at my local grocery store they have the most delicious mandarin oranges. They are called Sunkist Gold Nuggets and they are amazing.

My ministering companion and I wanted to take a treat to the ladies we minister. I am trying to eat a little more healthy so I got some of these oranges instead of cookies or brownies or something deliciously sugary. I added one of my favorite General Conference quotes from this past weekend and it was done. Get the free printable here by saving the image below.

chalkboard art printable

I found a super cute frame at Hobby Lobby the other day and I knew I wanted some art to go in it rather than a picture. I had seen this quote on Pinterest awhile ago and loved it. I have always been a huge fan of JM Barrie and knew this was the perfect quote for my new frame.

I drew up this little chalkboard design today and thought I'd give it away as a freebie for all of you.

Valentine heart oven mitt pattern

This heart oven mitt is so cute! The little half hearts are perfect to slip your hands in and grab anything hot. This would make an adorable Valentine's gift with a bag of chocolate chips or any baking supply.

Materials needed:
-2 fat quarters (or scraps, the heart isn't too large)
-batting, Insul-Bright is best and can be found at any sewing store
-trim (if desired, pom pom trim is adorable on these!)
-sewing supplies

Steps:

1. Cut:
2 large hearts on the fold of fabric
1 large heart on the fold of batting (I used Insul-Bright because it's heat resistant)
    2 small heart halves
3 strips of fabric or bias tape pieces about 10 inches long

2. Attach bias tape & trim to straight edge of the heart halves

3. If using a strip of fabric make a loop for hanging by folding fabric in half twice and stitching along edge length wise

4. Make a sandwich in this order:
    batting
front large heart face up (green heart in picture)
half hearts placed like they are shown in the finished mitt face up
loop for hanging (fold in half and pin near top of heart)
    back large heart face down

5. Sew around edge and leave a gap open for turning

6. Turn right side out through gap

7. Hand stitch closed

Happy Valentine's Day!!

2013 planner

I just downloaded Lori Whitlock's 2013 planner and I cannot wait to print it out and put it together!!

It's half price today at jessicasrague.com, only $6.50 for the whole printable planner.

I'll for sure be adding some dividers using my CAMEO and some cute scrapbook paper.

Hopefully I can get it put together before too long since it's already January 2! Can't wait to show you how it turns out!

Here's to getting more organized this year...
Happy New Year!

for your mistletoes *FREE PRINTABLE*

I have seen this idea many different ways and wanted to make my own version of it. I love the idea of small gifts for friends or a small gift to add to a larger gift.

Simply print out the tags, cut them out and tie them on to a gift. I printed mine on craft paper and love how they turned out.

You could tie this tag around nail polish, a pair of socks, slippers, shoes, or a combination of gifts.

scrappy stocking ornament tutorial with pattern

I saw a cute little scrappy ornament on Pinterest that was made of out fabric so I took the same concept and turned it into a paper ornament. You can cut all the pieces out by hand pretty quick and whip a bunch of these out in no time.

All you need is:
cute paper
glue/scissors
sewing machine (optional)
For the stocking shape base you'll want to use a thick cardstock, it will only be seen on the back but will make your ornament more stiff and last longer.

The scrappy pieces can be cut from any type of paper, patterned paper weight is the best.

Cut out the pattern and cut all your pieces out.
Then using a distressing ink and sponge, distress your edges. This isn't required but does give the stocking a more finished look.

Glue each piece to one stocking base starting with the top piece so it all lines up well.

Here's what it will look like once it's all glued together.

This step is optional but as you can see in the stocking on the right I sewed along all the lines with my sewing machine.

Take the extra stocking base you cut and glue a piece of ribbon or twine down. I recommend a tacky glue that will hold really well. Then glue the scrappy piece on top of that.

Here's what it will look like all glued together.
You can stop here or sew around the edge like I did in the image below.

Here they are all finished and cute! Left stocking is just glued together and right stocking is sewn together. The sewing around the edge helps keep the ribbon in place but the tacky glue also keeps it in there pretty good.

Please share a link in the comments if you make some, I'd love to see them! Or post them on Instagram and tag me @dresdencarrie.

Jack-o-lantern Jumble--a Treat and a Printable!

This time of year is all about traditions and yummy food, and this recipe is a fall/Halloween tradition in our family and definitely yummy. It's one of those sweet/salty combinations, so I guess you have to be into that to enjoy this, but I promise it won't disappoint you! It's easy to whip up a batch, and it's a great snack for yourself or a treat to give to friends, neighbors, teachers, etc. Here's the recipe:

4 cups Corn Chex
4 cups Rice Chex
1 cup salted peanuts
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup peanut butter
1-2 cups candy corn

In a large bowl, combine the cereal and peanuts, then set aside. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, peanut butter and worcestershire sauce. Cook and stir until butter and peanut butter are melted. Pour over cereal and toss to coat. Spread into a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 250 degrees for 30-45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes until cereal has browned. I usually take it out after 30 minutes because I don't like the cereal too brown, but oven times do vary so just watch it. Let it cool, then stir in the candy corn. Store leftovers in an airtight container.

On a side note, I always do at least 2 cups of candy corn, sometimes a little more. I like to have a candy corn in each bite, about a 2-3 to 1 ratio of the Chex to candy corn. But that's just my preference and opinion, take it or leave it!

And if you're wanting to share with someone, I created a little printable tag to go along with it:

You can cut out the 2.5" square, or use a 2" circle punch if you just want the circle. Enjoy! And don't be surprised if you can't stop eating it!

you've been boo'ed

Are you familiar with "you've been boo'ed"? It's a fun tradition similar to "secret santa" but a little different. Basically you make some treats and secretly deliver them to 2 neighbors along with a sign that says "we've been boo'ed".  They put that sign on their door and do the same thing to 2 of their neighbors who haven't been "boo'ed". Pretty fun!

For craft night with my sisters in law we made some cute boxes with my Silhouette and filled them up with goodies. It was quite fun, I love craft nights :)

How cute are these Halloween papers? I had a hard time choosing at Archiver's.

You'll need this download to include in your gift boxes, this explains how the tradition works

Here are what the boxes look like, I used a Lori Whitlock box found here

 filled with treats & goodies

It's fun to see how quickly this spreads throughout your neighborhood!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
