chalkboard art printable

I found a super cute frame at Hobby Lobby the other day and I knew I wanted some art to go in it rather than a picture. I had seen this quote on Pinterest awhile ago and loved it. I have always been a huge fan of JM Barrie and knew this was the perfect quote for my new frame.

I drew up this little chalkboard design today and thought I'd give it away as a freebie for all of you.

Enjoy the free chalkboard art printable!!

french door curtains

In our new home we have a set of french doors in our front room and a single door with glass that goes to our porch. I love the look of french doors with curtains so I plan on making these as soon as we move in. I found a couple good tutorials on how to make them.

All you need is some fabric and one of these curtain rods, it's temporarily out of stock but you could probably find one at a local sewing store, Lowe's or Home Depot.

It's called a sash rod

here is the fabric I'm looking at from fabric.com

I also like these ones, they are a bit lighter and may let in more light since they aren't the heavier home decor weight

I think I'd hang this one vertical rather than horizontal

Any preference?

Inspiration-color scheme

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Inspiration can come from so many places. Being in design I always needs creative inspiration.

I have been struggling with a color scheme for our new home. I want the home to be "us" not just trendy colors right now, though I like a lot of popular styles right now. So I have been trying really hard to figure out what my style is.

Well after a lot of searching it turns out my true style is actually a pretty current trend. I discovered it at a scrapbook store recently where I found these two papers by My Mind's Eye

And then I found these cute accents on their website and I was sold on the color scheme.

Since our walls will be a warm gray already I think this will work perfectly.
warm grey, mustard yellow, & light blue

The bedding we have in our room is white with a warm gray & light blue damask pattern so that will fit in well. I'm excited because I can finally narrow down my decisions on rugs. I think this mellow color scheme will allow for pops of color here and there when I want some excitement!

Some pops of color will come from one of my favorite artists- Katie Daisy

Check out her portfolio for more examples-so many to choose from!

Have any suggestions for decor ideas? Please share!

decorating a new home

My husband and I officially signed papers a few weeks ago to build a new home. We are beaming with excitement. We've been married 4 years and have lived in 4 different apartments, we are ready for our own space and to be somewhere permanently...for awhile at least :)

In those 4 years we've decorated with mostly hand-me-downs from relatives and are ready for our own stuff! So over the next few months you'll be seeing posts about my decor choices or preferences and I'll share the progress of the house as well. We are scheduled to move in the beginning of February, possibly January depending on delays/weather.

With the builder we chose we were able to choose everything from outside house colors to what style doors we want to carpet/flooring and every single thing in between.

Here are some permanent choices we had to pick two weeks ago:
white cabinets (seen at the bottom)
kashmere white granite counters
dark wood floors in the kitchen & dining (shown on the left)
carpet (shown at the top, it's a little grey-er in person)
tile for the bathrooms, mud room & laundry (on the right)
paint colors-warm gray with white trim (bottom left)

not pictured- craftsman style exterior that will be dark gray with white trim
hardware & lighting choices
appliances
interior door style
more I can't remember I'm sure

I've been dreaming of this style house for a long time and it took me about 10 minutes to make all those choices. Well maybe a little longer, but I knew what I wanted :) Growing up with a contractor for a dad you're kind of around this stuff all the time.

Stay tuned for posts about couches, rugs, curtains, color scheme, and much more. I'll be expecting your input as well, I am a bit indecisive when it comes to color scheme.
