New Spring designs

I recently took my girls to our local Butterfly Biosphere and we had so much fun! It's amazing where you can find inspiration. After going I came home and came up with some fun new Spring designs.

Download these designs at Silhouette Design Store or in Lori Whitlock's design shop. All are available in svg format so you can cut them out with any machine that works with svg files.

Happy Spring!

heart door mat

I think it's pretty obvious that I have an obsession with hearts. I came across a door mat that I loved and while at Ikea one day I found the perfect rug to use for it. This rug was $4.99...can't beat that, plus it has a nice rubber backing on it that keeps in it place on our porch.

I cut a heart out of vinyl and centered it on the rug.
You could easily use paper, the vinyl didn't even stick to the rug.

Using a sponge brush and paint work from the outside in, as long as you aren't pushing brush strokes outward the stencil will work great.

It was difficult to get a solid coat with this rug but it looks like it's supposed to be that way anyway.
I let it dry over night and then put it out on our porch. I love it!

A happy little mat for our front porch :)

Happy Monday!

christmas tags

Yesterday I made what I consider to be some of the cutest Christmas tags ever!

I downloaded some shapes from the Silhouette Online Store and whipped them out using very little paper and my CAMEO.

They came together super fast, like minutes per tag.
Add some twine or ribbon and your tags are ready to go!

there are a bunch of other 3D tags I didn't use but they are all SO cute!

you've been boo'ed

Are you familiar with "you've been boo'ed"? It's a fun tradition similar to "secret santa" but a little different. Basically you make some treats and secretly deliver them to 2 neighbors along with a sign that says "we've been boo'ed".  They put that sign on their door and do the same thing to 2 of their neighbors who haven't been "boo'ed". Pretty fun!

For craft night with my sisters in law we made some cute boxes with my Silhouette and filled them up with goodies. It was quite fun, I love craft nights :)

How cute are these Halloween papers? I had a hard time choosing at Archiver's.

You'll need this download to include in your gift boxes, this explains how the tradition works

Here are what the boxes look like, I used a Lori Whitlock box found here

It's fun to see how quickly this spreads throughout your neighborhood!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

15 minute fall garland

At the store the other day I saw some beautiful white pumpkins. I really love this time of year!

After making my little scarecrow the other day I got on a little craft kick. I made this garland in about 15 minutes, it was really easy. I downloaded a few shapes from the Silhouette Online Store, drew a circle around each one and added 2 small circles for stringing on a garland. After cutting them out I used a little distressing ink on the edges then strung them on some twine and that was it.

Here's what my screen looked like in Silhouette Studio

And the finished garland

Happy Fall!!

fall decor

I saw this exact project on my coworker's desk yesterday and fell in love! I work at Silhouette and my sweet coworker does all the projects for the Silhouette blog. I went out yesterday after work and bought everything I needed for this project.

If you have a Silhouette machine you should go grab the scarecrow shape from the Online Store because it's the free shape this week!

I love having a little fall decor in my house,
it's truly feeling like fall here in Utah and I couldn't be happier!

car sticker

I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out this adorable decal to put on my car. My husband and I ride bikes together a few times a week...one of our hobbies we share together.

spruce up a pencil cup with vinyl

I found a cute plain pencil cup at Target the other day and knew
I could do something to it to spruce it up.

Using my CAMEO, I cut some white vinyl and made it a fun piece to have at my desk.

design

I design the free shape that my work gives away every week. I am quite proud of the new one out this week. I designed the shape and our blog designer used the shape to make the cutest project.

Here's the shape I designed
Download it for FREE here til next Tuesday through your Silhouette Studio software.

Here's the beautiful project my coworker, Jeana, made.

scatter sunshine

I teach a class at my church one Sunday a month and tomorrow is my day. The lesson is "Love Thy Neighbor" and this quote from a song came to mind- "scatter sunshine all along your way."

"Let us all be a little more forgiving, a little more tender in our associations with each other, a little more considerate of one another, a little more generous of each other's feelings." -George Albert Smith

I made this little cutout with my Silhouette.

Let me know if you want one...or a digital printable version!

Hope you're having a great weekend!

one rockin' blanket

I have a new nephew!! Ridge was born yesterday, 11/7, to my sister in law Brandi and her husband Roudy. I cannot wait to hold the new little guy! I made him this blanket last week and thought I'd share it with you!

I cut out a giant guitar with my Silhouette in vinyl and then
stuck it on the fabric and traced it.
I cut out the letters with my Silhouette also, only I used fabric interfacing
with them since they were small enough to fit on a cutting mat.

Isn't the fabric on the back so cute?! And the giant ric-rac, who doesn't love giant ric-rac?

I added the star as an accent for fun!

Friday Fav's...on Saturday

Yesterday I was a little busy and didn't have time to put up my Friday Fav's, so I'm doing it today!
Here are some things I'm loving lately...

anything with snowmen really, I showed my favorite one here

I've always liked any wall art using paper towel/toilet paper rolls, but this one caught my eye, each little flower has a pearl in the middle. The link above has a great tutorial on how to make one yourself.

I work at Silhouette and we've been excited for months now to release the limited edition advent calendar. We've had a lot of paper companies and bloggers make one and they have come up with the most gorgeous calendars. I can't stop thinking of how I'm going to do mine!
Do you have one yet? Hurry and order one, they're limited edition!!
 Here are my 4 favorite.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

a gift for a special little person

A couple weeks ago I made a new blanket/playmat for my cousins newborn baby, Jack. Meghan and I are the same age and have been friends since we were born. I wanted to make her something special so I thought I'd personalize the gift. I got the giant ric-rac at Hobby Lobby, but you can also find it on Etsy. The fabrics are from a  Michael Miller collection. I used the Silhouette to cut out his name in fabric and then sewed it on.

Congrats again Meghan & Steven, your little baby is so cute!!

Happy 4th of July!

As I've mentioned before, the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. I was feeling crafty last week before we went on vacation so I made my mother in law and sister in law an America sign.
Gotta love the Silhouette & vinyl.
We're off to my husbands home town for some 4th of July traditions, have a great weekend!

houndstooth shirt tutorial

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
I've got a fun tutorial for you today!

here's what you need:
t-shirt (I used a $3.50 one from Forever21)
scraps of fabric
fabric interfacing (a must when using the Silhouette and highly recommended but not necessary if you are doing this by hand)
sewing machine
coordinating thread

Step 1: iron your scraps of fabric and iron the interfacing to the back (following instructions on pkg)

Step 2: cut out your houndstooth pieces, I did mine about 2.5" x 2.5". You could easily do this by hand by just tracing a houndstooth or any other shape you want.
Step 3: lay our your pieces on your shirt, I did mine kind of scattered to add interest.
Step 4: iron the pieces down, this is the best part of the Silhouette Fabric Interfacing. It's double sided so you can iron it and it will stick down.
Step 5: sew each piece on, I forgot to get a picture, but it's pretty easy. Just be sure to only sew through one side of the shirt! And be gentle with the t-shirt since it's a knit fabric you will have to be more cautious when sewing on it.

Step 6: You're done! Didn't it turn out so cute?! I washed mine after this step to make the edges of the pieces a little distressed.
This project only cost me $3.50, I already had scraps of fabric from other projects and I had the fabric interfacing from this project. It's fun to come up with your own t-shirt designs, I look at shirts in the mall and all over the internet to get ideas...then I make them for a lot less $$! I hope this inspires you to do the same.
